Legend Has It

The Dog was one of the strongest swimmers in the race — it could have finished near the top with ease. But the river was so refreshing, the morning so perfect, that the Dog couldn't help but pause, frolic in the current, and explore a little upstream before remembering the race. By the time it composed itself and swam hard for the finish, eleven animals had already crossed. It arrived eleventh, wet and cheerful, entirely at peace with the result. Some say this is why dogs live so fully in the present — because the Dog learned that the journey, done wholeheartedly, is its own reward.
